A conventional power turbine is a highly sensitive and complex piece of equipment, with a clearly defined division into temperature zones:
– in the high-pressure section, the casing reaches temperatures close to those of the live steam, which can be as high as 600°C and pressures of up to 200 MPa,
– in the intermediate-pressure section, the casing cools down to temperatures of approximately 400°C,
– in the low-pressure section, the operating temperature is around 100°C.
The turbine casing insulation is intended not only to prevent energy losses as such, but above all to ensure stable operating temperature conditions for the entire unit and to reduce potential thermal stress.
For this reason, in order for the equipment to be properly insulated, thermal insulation with graduated thickness, precisely defined performance, and appropriate mechanical and strength parameters must be applied.
Thermal insulation cover technology is currently widely recommended by virtually all turbine set manufacturers.
