R&D team (BIR)

SUM Poland has its own research and development team which, in addition to verifying and testing component materials, works on continuous product improvement and the introduction of new functional solutions.
In 2016, the research and development team was established, simply called BIR. Any SUM employee can become a member of the group, provided they propose a topic that is worth considering. One such area of focus is new technical fabrics. Fabric manufacturers often send us samples or rolls of new materials. SUM Poland uses proven materials sourced from European and American manufacturers, while continuously conducting market assessments of proposed fabrics in terms of both price and quality. A fabric binder has been created, containing product cards and samples, which enables faster comparison between fabrics currently used in the company for cover production and potential alternatives for implementation. At the request of the BIR team, an order is placed to produce a test cover made from the new fabric.

And what is crucial in this entire process? We also collect assessments and feedback from our employees involved in the production of the covers. This is also important to us! Such an approach enables not only a theoretical comparison of the material properties declared by the manufacturer, but also testing of its characteristics and behaviour in a finished SUM GUARD thermal insulation cover at every stage: from production through to actual use.
